Quilt Artist and Teacher

Janet Fogg - Workshops and Lectures

Janet Fogg is a quilt artist and teacher from the Portland, Oregon area. With an equal emphasis on traditional and contemporary designs, her award winning quilts combine the two genres into a unique and captivating body of work. She has traveled throughout the United States sharing her quilting stories and techniques. Recently, Janet has embarked on a new path, designing innovative yet traditional quilt patterns for student use in workshops. By creating designs that are visually exciting yet easy enough for the beginning quilter to construct, she hopes to share her love and knowledge of the art with those just beginning their journey.

Workshop Information

Animal Overlays   -   2-5 Day Workshop

Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate Quilters
Traditional quilt blocks lay the groundwork for innovative designs of animal faces in this workshop.  Learn how to design and draft an original pattern using a simplified line drawing of an animal face or profile and a well chosen traditional quilt block as a foundation for the animal’s features.  Working from a photograph, students will simplify the animal image by tracing the main lines onto a clear transparency.

The image will be enlarged and drawn onto oversized drawings of quilt block(s).  Block lines will connect with curved lines using a combination of machine piecing for straight seams and turned edge appliqué by hand or machine for the curves.  Discover the delight in seeing new designs come to life.

For students interested in learning the construction techniques but do not desire to design an original quilt design, Janet Fogg’s quilt pattern kits will be available for purchase. Students may opt to work on one of these kits as their class project.  Kits include a full- scale pattern and all of the fabric needed to make the chosen quilt top and binding.

Kits range in price from $75-$90.  The selection of kits may be viewed at Janet's online store at www.janetfoggquilts.com.
